Community Wellness ClassesMost classes free with café purchase!Ruta Maya honors the age old tradition of the coffee shop as a “Penny University” - a place where for the price of a cup of coffee (which was one cent when the phrase was coined), you could become educated in many different subjects by interacting with the variety of people who frequented there. Ruta Maya offers many informal classes which are FREE with a purchase at the café during the time of the class. Other classes are offered at a nominal fee to compensate the instructor. Donations are always welcome for teachers and most teachers are available for private classes. For a listing of our FREE yoga classes, please check out “Free Yoga” schedule. Community Wellness Class Schedule at a Glance
How the Community Wellness Program WorksThe Community Wellness Program at Ruta Maya has been designed to create an opportunity for our customers to learn a number of different topics. It is our belief that the members of the Ruta Maya community can take what they have developed in our classes and bring it out into the general Austin community, thereby making our city a healthier and happier place to live. All of our class offerings are supported by Ruta Maya supplying a small stipend for the instructors, the instructors supplying their expertise at at discounted rate and YOU, our customers. In order for the program to flourish, we need your support. In this way, the Community Wellness Program is symbiotic - we ALL benefit. Please make your café purchases BEFORE the class begins. Make purchases at the café when you attend informal classes allows Ruta Maya to appropriate a bigger budget and offer even more classes and workshops for our customers' enjoyment and erudition. The more classes our customers attend, the more classes Ruta Maya can offer.
